The Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center is governed by a board of 20 volunteers from the community who are members of the Center. According to the Bylaws, each board member must be a member of the Center for at least 60 days prior to their appointment or election to the board. Board members are elected to two-year terms. All board members must be elected to the Board by the membership at an Annual Membership Meeting that occurs in September.

Steps to Becoming a Board Member

The following do not necessarily need to happen in chronological order. Many steps may also happen simultaneously.

1. Contact the President of the Board at boardpres@defrank.org to express interest in the election. The Board President will meet with the potential appointee to talk about the Center and board service.
    
2. Turn into the Recruitment Committee of the Board a résumé and a letter of intent. The letter should include some biographical information, the reason why you want to serve on the Board, what skills and passions you bring to the Board, and what you hope to gain from your experience.
    
3. Attend a Board Meeting and be active on a Board Committee.
    
4. Attend the Annual Membership Meeting when the election is to be held.
