Development Research Intern
Purpose:
As the Development Research Intern, you
will assist the Director of Resource Development
with the identification, research, and
management of potential foundation funding
sources.
Major Responsibilities:
- Using the Internet and print resources to identify public, private and corporate foundation prospects
- Researching and preparing summaries of funding guidelines, giving history, and contact information for foundation prospects
- Creating and updating prospect records in the development database
- Assisting the Director of Resource Development with the management of foundation prospect relationships
- Assist in grant writing
Reporting
Relationship:
This position reports to Director of
Resource Development.
Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to the mission of the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center
- Experience working with Internet and library research tools
- Ability to synthesize information into concise well-written reports
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Prior grant-writing and funding applications experience
- Excellent communication skills, including writing and telephone usage
- Excellent people skills
- Self motivated, ability to work independently
- Basic computer knowledge, including email, Internet, and word processing
- Good organizational skills
Time Commitment/Hours:
Requires a commitment of 5-10 hours per
week and weekday availability. Position
will be a minimum of 6 months. Some work
can be done at home.

Internships are
structured to provide students with a high
amount of responsibility and challenging
work. Although staff will provide guidance
and supervision, interns will be able to
contribute to the direction of the program
area they work on. DeFrank Center
internships are structured to be mutually
beneficial to both the student and the
organization. Interns will be accountable
to their work plan and their
responsibilities. Interns will take part
in consensus decision-making processes and
help shape group goals.
