Family Program Developer Intern
Purpose:
To develop and implement the DeFrank
Centers new family programs
Major Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director of Adult Programs to develop and build a
families committee
- Coordinate monthly family programming
- Develop childcare program for
in-house activities and
programming
- Lead family-specific workshops
- Explore funding/grant opportunities
- Develop programming for children of
various age groups
Reporting Relationship:
This position reports to the Director of Adult Programs.
Experience:
- Bachelor degree in childhood development
- Three years experience working with
LGBT communities, children and
families, highly desirable
- Demonstrated history of leadership
and commitment to mentoring, advising
individuals/groups, and communities
involvement with LGBT community
required
- Excellent communication skills,
including writing and telephone
usage
- Self motivated, ability to work
independently
- Basic computer knowledge, including
email, Internet, and word processing
skills
- Demonstrable commitment to
promoting and enhancing diversity
- Good organizational and leadership
skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree or other graduate work in
social services, specializing in children
and families. Demonstrated the ability to
provide support services and educational
programming.
Time Commitment/Hours:
Requires a commitment of 10-15 hours per
week, at least two days of office hours.
Position will be a minimum of 6 months and
have potential to grow into a paid
position. Some work can be done at
home.

Internships are
structured to provide students with a high
amount of responsibility and challenging
work. Although staff will provide guidance
and supervision, interns will be able to
contribute to the direction of the program
area they work on. DeFrank Center
internships are structured to be mutually
beneficial to both the student and the
organization. Interns will be accountable
to their work plan and their
responsibilities. Interns will take part
in consensus decision-making processes and
help shape group goals.
