here to download a comprehensive and
countywide assessment of the needs of the
lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender
communities.
The needs assessment, which
has taken over twelve months to complete,
was funded by the County Board of
Supervisors in January, 1999.
The DeFrank Center engaged
John Snow, Inc, of Boston, MA, a
nationally recognized social research
organization, as consultants to assist
with the project. Included in the needs
assessment was a survey of 690 lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender people, six
focus groups and a survey of 34 community
based social and health services providers
within Santa Clara County.
The results also incorporate
data collected in a pre-survey
questionnaire completed by 1,200 people at
the 1999 San Jose Gay Pride Festival, and
the results of the needs assessment of
LGBT seniors completed by the DeFrank
Center in August, 1998. The needs
assessment is the most thorough
exploration to date of the various social
and health service needs of the Santa
Clara County LGBT community.
