Volunteer Position: Social Committee

Description

Those of you with experience in coordinating social activities for groups, planning events, getting people involved AND who like to host parties, this committee is for you! The primary purpose of this group is to host social events and activities for our whole LGBT Community with the new opportunities after completion of our renovations. Events could include comedy shows, dinners, potlucks, dances, bonfires, holiday parties and more based on feedback from this important committee. Volunteers on the committee are encouraged to participate in the planning of regularly scheduled events, recruitment of additional volunteers, as well as provide feedback as what to offer in the new building.

You will be working with the Youth, Adult and Senior Services coordinators to create social events for our community. We would like a committee that reflects the range of interests, ages, races, genders, geography and orientations in our community.

Currently we desire increased participation in the following demographics:

  • 20 something / Youth
  • Cultural Diversity
  • Men, Bisexual & Transgender Representation

Experience

Experience in coordinating social activities for groups, planning events, and getting people involved. Entry-level experience ok with the desire to learn and help build community. Experience working with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people preferred.

Commitment

Meetings are on the 1st Thursdays evenings for an hour meeting starting at 6 p.m. Special meetings are required every 2 to 3 months for holidays, picnics, and other events. We pleasantly request a 6-month minimum commitment.

Skills Required

Participants must attend volunteer orientation training prior to attending. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Friendly, extraverted, and able to host organize parties of large magnitudes. Pluses for this committee would include strong computer skills, writing/editing, marketing, and graphic experience. Reliable and able to meet deadlines. Internet access and email required.

Goals

1. Hold lower cost, non revenue generating social events for members under $30.
2. Provide pricing levels for non members to participate and experience the DeFrank Center.
3. Mentor new social activities into regular events (game, dance, and other committees).
4. Empower volunteers to participate in the planning of events based on the Membership needs.
