Volunteer Position: Speakers Bureau

Description

If you are a member of the LGBT community or a family member of someone who is LGBT, we would like you to share your life experiences. Educate others about your unique experience as a LGBT person or family member. Help those who are LGBT or questioning (as well as their friends and family) hear your stories and create allies and better understanding our community.

Approved and trained volunteers will be asked to sit on panels that educate and have an impact by putting a human face to the labels of LGBT. The goal is to reduce homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in our local community.

This volunteer managed team provides speaker panels to school classrooms (4th-12th grades), colleges, community organizations, outreach at event fairs, and sometimes corporate events.

We are looking for a volunteer base that reflects the diversity of our community including youth, seniors, cultural, all orientations and gender identification.

Experience

Previous public experience preferred, however not required.

Commitment

6-months to 1-year minimum, no maximum

Skills Required

Participants must attend volunteer orientation training and the speaker certification workshop, and be approved by the Speakers Bureau coordinator.
