| Description |
The Billy DeFrank Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual
and Transgender Community Center is a vital and successful
community organization because of its strong and committed
staff and volunteers. A volunteer, community-based board
of Center Members with a diversity of skills, talents,
backgrounds, and ideas is key in that continued success.
As the primary policy-makers for the organization,
Board Members are expected to attend regular monthly
board meetings, quarterly board workshops and are encouraged
to participate in standing and/or ad hoc working committees
of the board as well as participating in special events
and projects of the Center. While not responsible for
the day-to-day program and operational functions of
the organization, the board is ethically, fiscally,
and legally responsible for the Center.
Ethical Responsibilities to the Center:
- Assure that the Center stays true to its mission,
and that its ongoing activities are current and relevant
to its long-term goals
- Act as an ambassador for the Center by promoting
the Center and its mission and encouraging others
to participate as members, volunteers, potential board
members and/or donors
- Contribute ideas and special skills to further the
mission of the Center
Fiscal Responsibilities to the Center:
- Gain understanding of the Center's budget and financial
reports to assure that the Center continues to operate
in a fiscally responsible manner
- Ensure that Center is adequately funded by participating
in activities that bring resources into the Center
- Contribute financially to the Center at the level
that is personally significant
Legal Responsibilities to the Center:
- Gain understanding of the bylaws and legal obligations
of the Center and dutifully adhere to those standards
and disclosing any conflicts of interest in performing
those obligations
- Participate in the creation and review of policies
that provide guidance and vision for the Center and
further its mission
Make prudent decisions based on the needs of those
the Center serves, putting the interests of the organization
above personal interests |

Participants must be a member of the
DeFrank Center for 60 days and be voted into office
by members or appointed by vote of the current Board. |
