Volunteer Position: LGBT Families with Kids Coordinator

Description

Those of you with experience in coordinating social activities for groups, planning events, and getting people involved, this committee is for you! The primary purpose of this group is lead social and support activities for LGBT families and kids.

Volunteers on the committee are encouraged to participate in the planning of regularly scheduled events, recruitment of additional volunteers, as well as provide feedback on the direction of the committee.

You will be working with Adult Services to create social events for LGBT Families with kids.

We would like a committee that reflects the range of interests, ages, races, genders, geography and orientations in our community.

Experience

Experience in coordinating social activities for groups, planning events, and getting people involved. Entry-level experience ok with the desire to learn and help build community.

  • Great organizational and leadership skills.
  • Preferred some eduction in childhood development
  • Demonstrated history of leadership and commitment to mentoring, and advising individuals/groups
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing and telephone usage.
  • Self motivated, ability to work independently.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including email, Internet, and word processing skills.
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
  • Demonstrated the ability to provide support services and educational programming.

Commitment

To develop and implement the DeFrank Center’s new family programs

Requires a commitment of 10 hours per month. Position will be a minimum of 6 months and have potential to grow into a paid position.

Requirements

Team members must attend volunteer orientation training and undergo fingerprinting for a background check. Dedicated, reliable and able to meet deadlines. Internet access and email required.

Provide a social outlet for LGBT families and kids that strengthens the bond with families in our community.
